Data Abstract

In order to capture the changes in rural areas, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture established a survey system called Fixed Observation Points System. It regularly conducted surveys on economic and institutional changes in these "fixed observation points" of villages across China.

The objects of the survey are the villages selected and economic entities (household, economic cooperatives and enterprises) within the village. Based on the nature of survey, sampling or complete survey method was adopted.

The contents of the survey are comprehensive, which includes over 1000 items in total. Based on the type of statistical reporting form, it can be summarized under 3 categories: (1) Information on villages, including population, labor force, land utilization, institutional construction, fixed assets, production and sales, financial situation. (2) Information on household, such as population, labor, land, sown area, sales, purchase of production materials. Household income, expenditure, food consumption and holding of durable products are also included. (3) Information on enterprises, including assets and liability, production, sales, income and expenses, distribution of net income, etc.

Permanent Observation Sites Rural Household-Level Surveys was one of the regular surveys conducted by Ministry of Agriculture on the these permanant observation sites.
